Good Will Hunting

★★★★★

(yes, that is six stars – reserved for only for my top 3 movies)

Some people can never believe in themselves, until someone believes in them.

“So what did I think? I’m holdin’ out for somethin’ better. I figure fuck it, while I’m at it why not just shoot my buddy, take his job, give it to his sworn enemy, hike up gas prices, bomb a village, club a baby seal, hit the hash pipe and join the National Guard? I could be elected president” – Will

“I have a bullshit answer for everything” – Sean

“I think I got some of your pickle” – Skylar

“Does this violate the doctor-patient relationship?” – Will
“Not unless you grab my ass” – Sean

“You’re my best friend, so don’t take this the wrong way. In 20 years, if you’re still livin’ here, comin’ over to my house to watch the Patriots games, still workin’ construction, I’ll fuckin’ kill you. That’s not a threat; now, that’s a fact. I’ll fuckin’ kill you” – Chuckie

If you haven’t seen this movie, you seriously haven’t lived yet. It’s incredible that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were nobodies and wrote this incredible screenplay. It changed their lives forever. Every time I watch this movie, I interpret it differently. It changes your philosophy on life, and impacts you differently every time. The intensity of it is almost scary, and the good ending is the cherry on top. If you don’t grow as a person after watching it you have some serious disconnect issues. When I say this is one of my favorite movies I actually mean it. It falls in at No. 2 right behind Gladiator. This is a classic, worth watching once a year to do a little soul searching, with some great actors Minnie Driver, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Robin Williams. Love them, (and the amazing soundtrack)!

“I have to see about a girl… Son of a bitch he stole my line”

“You’re legally allowed to drink now, so we figured the best thing for you was a car” – Billy

An Education

Simply Amazing! My new favorite! ☆☆☆☆☆

It’s no wonder Carey Mulligan won the “Best British Actress of the Year” award, she more than deserved it. Starting this movie I wasn’t sure what to expect, I had only seen the previews for it on TV which reveal nothing about the movie. I was expecting it to be good considering all of the Oscar Buzz, but wow I was blown away! The movie is just so well done! The screenplay by Nick Hornby, who wrote another favorite About a Boy was plain and simple brilliant. I just thought it was very applicable, maybe it’s because I’m in college, but I thought wow school is important and it almost slipped between her fingers. It translates to a large audience, there is actually living and discovering, living how we think we should and trying to be mature, and then doing the smart and invaluable thing – learning even if the lessons are hard.

Sure dating a man that much older isn’t common, but it was so well done it seemed realistic. Sitting there watching this movie I felt as though I was standing right behind her shoulder yelling “NO” don’t do this! Jenny is smart and that is what makes this movie worth watching, you aren’t witnessing a airhead teenager who wants to rebel. You are seeing an educated, smart, young girl, who just wanted to live. Can we blame her for wanting to live life?

The cast was perfect. Who doesn’t love to see Emma Thompson. Even though it made my skin crawl Peter Sarsgaard was still a charmer. Dominic Cooper – hello bad boy, loved his mysterious role. Rosamund Pike’s second movie with Carey Mulligan, they were in Pride & Prejudice together, and she is a sophisticated fashionista in this movie, almost idol like.  Love to see Olivia Williams in anything. To top it off no one could have played the father role as well as Alfred Molina. Not to forget Carey Mulligan, my new icon, in the lead role.

Not to mention an amazing soundtrack!

The Ultimate Gift

The Ultimate Gift

This is one of the BEST Hallmark movies I have ever seen!!! The cast of James Garner, Drew Fuller, and Abigail Breslin makes this movie feel “not so Hallmark-ish.” Adapted from a novel The Ultimate Gift really is great and the movie is well done, definitely not cheesy at all. This is a curl up with a blanket, cup of tea, and a box of kleenex with your best friends type movie. I give it 5 stars keeping in mind its from Hallmark.

Leap Year

★★★★★ [romantic comedy scale-much different]

Leap Year Poster

Leap Year with Matthew Goode and Amy Adams was soooooo worth watching! In my head I was like ‘ok another romantic comedy.’ But this movie was sooo good. Funny, Funny, Funny! Suprisingly, it wasn’t as predictable as you would think, there were good twists, – this movie had content! Matthew Goodes role kind of reminds me of him in Chasing Liberty, but this was definitely the grown up version. Anna and Declan, went back and forth between being mad and being happy and believe me [spoiler-  in the end they are happy!] Hands down go! It’s even worth paying for at the theater!Leap Year Kiss

Avatar … I want to be blue too!

☆☆☆☆

Avatar

I cannot even begin to describe how epic this movie is. First, I saw it normal, then the second (later that week) I saw it in 3D. Overall for the 3D aspect – this is the only non-positive comment I will ever make about it – is that I would rather watch it normal vs. 3D. I just didn’t add much for me and I don’t like wearing those glasses. Moving on this movie is genius, yes it has a plot that we are comfortable with the classic cowboys v the natives, oppression story line. However, Avatar takes place on another planet with…blue people and it is better than you can imagine!

“All-time worldwide grosses? Cameron may well be about to kick his own ass: Avatar is up to No. 2, at $1.3 billion, with Titanic’s $1.8 billion certainly well within reach, particularly if it continues to perform as well as it has (it earned more than $150 million outside North America last weekend). And there’s no reason to expect that it won’t.”- FlickFilosopher.com

It’s cool when a director tries to beat a record for number one all time grossing, but it is hilarious when he tries to beat himself. That right there is the mark of a true genius!

I have 10 words that summarize my love of scores and this movie and I truly will go to the grave still believe that –  “James Cameron and James Horner can’t procreate enough!”

Edward Bella Reunion

Of course I went to the Twilight Saga New Moon premier, why have I waited so long to post this? Who knows, I had to let it all sink in.

As much as I do not like to wave my nerd flag, when movies come out that I am excited about it’s  usually on display! Going to a premier with a million screaming girls is not fun, but sooooo worth it! Especially when you have good company. This is not a review, more like a miniature tribute to Twilight fans. I just cannot wait to see the movie again, but after finals!

Going to a movie and laughing is nice. Going to a movie with friends and not being able to stop laughing the whole night, equals an inside joke forever! The scene below is where Jacob comes to Bella’s room via the tree and his werewolf moves and jumps through the window.  So, I’m watching, not really paying any attention to what Jacob and Bella are saying, because HELLO! who is listening to the words, when those abs speak for themselves! Right about here in the scene my friend leans over and says “How could you contain yourself, when he is in your bedroom?”………( long pause because now in the scene they are hugging)…….so I lean back over and say “I would be a She-Wolf!” Funniest Thing Ever! I died!
