Did You Hear About The Morgans?

SURPRISING! This was way better than I was expecting. I expected it to be “good,” a few laughs and a good ending, BUT this movie delivered! Sarah Jessica Parker and Hugh Grant are perfect. Hugh Grants dry one liners keep you smiling the whole movie, and there is actually a plot! What a shocker!

A Single Man

A Single Man

Not what I was expecting at all! The trailers are misleading, on less you are watching them after, you have seen the movie. However, this was a great movie and sooo worth seeing! Amazing costumes, and a great soundtrack. Tom Ford- I think you have discovered another talent! Matthew Goode, Colin Firth, Julianne Moore are great, and the kid from About a Boy is all grown up!

Romantic Comedy: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

★★★★ It’s Complicated

It's Complicated

THE GOOD It’s Complicated was exactly what I was expecting- Divorced with Benefits-, all except for the end, which left me a little disappointed. Maybe realistic, and for sure not horrible, but I much preferred the hilarious bits between the beginning and end. You can clearly tell this is from Nancy Meyers creator of The Holiday and Something’s Gotta Give. This movie is worth watching just to see Meryl Streep and Steve Martin get stoned. I promise you will laugh!

★★     (500) Days of Summer

500 Days of Summer

THE BAD This was cool way to show a movie with the jumping around, and sometimes I don’t mind at all if movies don’t end as predicted. However, to me this movie didn’t live up to all the hype it got. It got saved from a one star rating because it had a surprisingly good ending and funny moments. Not forgetting to mention that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel compliment each other well! and it has such a perfect tagline! Boy meets girl. Boy falls in love. Girl doesn’t. This is not a love story. This is a story about love.

★★ My Life in Ruins

My Life in Ruins

THE UGLY Honestly, not really worth your time. Some funny parts. Okay story. Obviously, has a good ending, and that’s about it.

Note: These are all rated on the Romantic Comedy scale. Much different from the General Scale.

Boy meets girl. Boy falls in love. Girl doesn’t. This is not a love story. This is a story about love.

Avatar … I want to be blue too!

I cannot even begin to describe how epic this movie is. First, I saw it normal, then the second (later that week) I saw it in 3D. Overall for the 3D aspect – this is the only non-positive comment I will ever make about it – is that I would rather watch it normal vs. 3D. I just didn’t add much for me and I don’t like wearing those glasses. Moving on this movie is genius, yes it has a plot that we are comfortable with the classic cowboys v the natives, oppression story line. However, Avatar takes place on another planet with…blue people and it is better than you can imagine!

“All-time worldwide grosses? Cameron may well be about to kick his own ass: Avatar is up to No. 2, at $1.3 billion, with Titanic’s $1.8 billion certainly well within reach, particularly if it continues to perform as well as it has (it earned more than $150 million outside North America last weekend). And there’s no reason to expect that it won’t.”- FlickFilosopher.com

It’s cool when a director tries to beat a record for number one all time grossing, but it is hilarious when he tries to beat himself. That right there is the mark of a true genius!

I have 10 words that summarize my love of scores and this movie and I truly will go to the grave still believe that –  “James Cameron and James Horner can’t procreate enough!”
